Story Time with Bucho, Ep. 2: "Black Crush"

 I've been bad at updating things here, despite being pretty busy with both working on new DJ mixes and (finally) finishing another story that I began last year. I've since updated all the thumbnails for each of the new Story Time with Bucho videos I've posted, giving them a more thematic feel. I bought a new microphone to help with volume control (it's better, but not great). 

Anyway, here's episode two. I'll post up the others every day this week for those of you that follow the blog. Feel free to subscribe to the YouTube channel if you like what you hear. Feel free to purchase a couple books as well (see below) to help a struggling fiction writer out.

Chaosium Con 2: The Eldritch Buchaloo

Back when I was 11 or 12, my friend group consisted of hyper nerds into video games and roleplaying games (we were good at the former and almost certainly doing the latter completely incorrectly). And I would spend the next several years playing DnD (or HeroQuest) or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness off and on with various friend groups.  I played once or twice in college again, but left the hobby alone for the most part until 2016 or 2017 when I got back into a campaign with some old friends from my DJing days. Then mom got sick and I had to put that on the backburner again. Then the pandemic hit and I found myself gravitating toward the collective storytelling found in horror roleplaying games like Kult and Call of Cthulhu as opposed to the fantasy worlds of Dungeons and Dragons. Chaosium Con Three: Footloose & Sanity Free

There is something to horror gaming that, to me, is more than simple escapism or fun, each for their own (totally valid) sake. As a writer, I find that I really enjoy the collaborative nature of the storytelling done by everyone at the table. It is chaos to the nth degree, and it is often a great time because of the chaos...which can be controlled and/or managed. At some point, the terror stops and you go on with your day. The situation is finite.  But there's also something to be said for horror gaming in that, at least for me personally, it's allowed me to better adapt and solution for the real life daily horrors that perpetuate and grow and continue.  Horror gaming ends up being a nice release valve for me; so, too, are the people that I get to do so much of it with.
